Part time, term time

Job Title: Tutor — Group Instructor for students with SEMH/SEND and Adults with Learning Disabilities
Location: Lower Bush Farm, Stoke Saint Milborough, Ludlow, Shropshire, SY8 2ES
Hours: Part-time, 2 – 3 days per week term time.  Possible cover and school holiday hours available.
Salary: £140 per day 9.30am – 5pm.
 
About Lower Bush Farm 
Lower Bush Farm is a 40-acre farm-based education alternative provision and adult day centre. We deliver practical, person-centred learning through animal care, carpentry, horticulture and Forest School to build confidence, independence and vocational skills. 
 
The older students work towards NOCN level 1 and level 2 qualifications in animal care, horticulture and carpentry.  Younger children’s days include using the Forest School and assisting with basic animal care. 
 
The adult groups consider themselves at work and assist with real life jobs including animal care, site maintenance, and horticulture. 
 
Role overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Tutor to plan and deliver group sessions for young people and adults with learning disabilities.
 
You will plan accessible activities, support learners to achieve NOCN Level 1/2 outcomes where appropriate, and promote independence, wellbeing and positive social skills in an outdoor setting. 
 
Staff are expected to work across all groups.  Depending on pervious experiences the new job role may have a focus on students or the adult groups where possible.
 
Key responsibilities
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate group sessions in animal care, carpentry, horticulture and Forest School tailored to individual needs.
  • Support learners to achieve NOCN Level 1/2 units and record progress against learning criteria.
  • Use person-centred approaches to encourage independence, teamwork and life/workplace skills.
  • Maintain behaviour management, safeguarding and health & safety standards.
  • Liaise with placement agencies, schools, parents and social workers; attend meetings as required.
  • Prepare resources, risk assessments and session plans; keep accurate records.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and team meetings.
  • Complete student reports for placing agencies.
 
Person specification
  • Experience teaching groups of adults with learning disabilities.
  • Experience teaching groups of students with SEMH and/or additional needs.
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as QTS, TAQA, Forest School Leader.
  • Experience and qualifications in vocational subjects such as animal care, carpentry, horticulture or Forest School.
  • Familiar with delivering Level 1/2 vocational qualifications.
  • Strong communication, patience, adaptability and classroom/group management skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and health and safety.
  • Willingness to complete training First Aid, safeguarding, Prevent, etc.
  • Ability to access a 40 acre site which is naturally uneven in places.
