Lantra Chainsaw courses and qualifications

Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting (days 1 & 2 of the five-day course)

Overview

This course covers basic chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting techniques.  

 

Who should attend

Those wishing to develop their knowledge, understanding, and skills.  Most students complete this course as part of the five-day package. 

The qualification

* Knowledge and understanding across a range of forestry and arboriculture functions and activities

*  Be able to work effectively in a forestry and arboriculture environment, both independently and as part of a team

* Be able to review and develop your own practices, and carry out a range of practical forestry and arboriculture tasks, to the required industry standard

* Improve your awareness of health and safety legislation and how individuals can contribute to the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) agenda

* Obtain occupational competence practice

* Meet the license-to-practice or other legal requirements

Prerequisites

* Age 16+

* Appropriate level of fitness

Chainsaw Maintenance & Crosscutting and Basic Felling up to 380mm (five-day qualification + half-day assessment)

Courses will run with a minimum of three students and a maximum of four.  If six-eight student places are required we can run two groups simultaneously.

The course involves a lot of physical work, so you'll need at least a minimum level of fitness to successfully complete all the tasks.

Level 2 Award In Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm

(days 3-5 of the five-day course)

Overview

This qualification helps you demonstrate your competence in key forestry and arboriculture operations.  It will also confirm your occupational competence and/or license to practice.

Who should attend

Those already, or considering, working in the sector or want to increase their safety and ability for home use. 

The qualification

* Knowledge and understanding across a range of forestry and arboriculture functions and activities

* Work effectively in a forestry and arboriculture environment, both independently and as part of a team

*Review and develop their own practices and carry out a range of practical forestry and arboriculture tasks, to the required industry standard

* Improve awareness of health and safety legislation and how individuals can contribute to the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) agenda.

Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting

The five-day course (plus half-day assessment)

Overview

This is the most popular route.  In one week you will work towards both qualifications mentioned above, the level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting, and the level 2 Award In Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm.  This is the quickest way to achieve sector recognized qualifications.

Who should attend

Those wishing to work in the sector or extend their safety and ability for home use.
